The German Kosmos (as a books publishing house) is more than 180 years old. In the beginning of the 20th Century it specializes in the scientific and naturalistic popularization. In the 20’s it begins to produce scientific kits that are sold together with books. In the 80’s it also starts to publish board games and, in 1995, with the publication of Sidlers von Catan, it becomes one of the most important companies for the european games business. Since 1996 Kosmos publishes an important series of games for two players, such as Sidlers von Catan – the card game, Cesar & Cleopatra, and Lost cities. Kosmos is also very important for many games based od books or movies, such as The Lord of the Rings based on Tolkien’s books, Around the world in 80 Days inspired by Jules Verne and The Pillars of the Earth inspired by the  Ken Follet bestseller. In 2007 two games based on KahunaThe Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, are published, one of them created by Marco Maggi and Francesco Nepitello.
