PRESS RELEASE Back to Italy the 18 th City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament! Massimo Moretti , from Jesi, is the new champion, beating in the final the strong bulgarian Maya Peycheva.
The current world champion, the dutch Philip Vischjager, was beaten in the final of the consolation by the exuberant Beppe Rigon from Bologna . Fabrizio Lo Surdo, winner of the 1 st consolation in MonteCarlo reached the semifinal, where was beaten by the Peycheva . The tournament was held from the 30 th of November to the 3 rd of December in the glamorous setting of the Casino of Venice . There were 114 officially registered players, from 18 Countries (Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Great Britain, Greece, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey, USA). More than 40 trophies were assigned in a festive prize-giving ceremony. The event was organised by studiogiochi on behalf of the Casino of Venice . Maya leads 14-10 in a 17-point match and owns the cube at 2; she is on turn with only 3 pieces to bear off (in 2, 4 and 5); Massimo has 3 pieces to bear off as well (in 1, 3 and 3). Peycheva redoubles to 4 (Massimo obviously takes) and rolled 3-1 bearing off the piece in 4. Massimo redoubles to 8, Maya takes, Massimo rolls 6-5, Maya 4-1 and loses. It was emotion?
COMUNICATO STAMPA Parla di nuovo italiano il 18° Torneo Internazionale di Backgammon Città di Venezia; 3 anni dopo la vittoria del veneziano Giorgio Caldera Il torneo si è svolto dal 30 novembre al 3 dicembre 2006 a Ca' Vendramin Calergi, il cinquecentesco palazzo sul Canal Grande e prestigiosa sede del Casinò di Venezia Moretti (30 anni, artigiano di Jesi) in finale ha avuto la meglio sulla determinata bulgara Maya Peycheva, che ha raggiunto anche le semifinali del torneo di doppio in coppia con lo svizzero David Boldini . Molto bene anche gli altri italiani, con il veneziano Piergiorgio D'Ancona e il monzese Fabrizio Lo Surdo (recente vincitore del primo consolation a MonteCarlo) in semifinale. Inoltre l'effervescente bolognese Beppe Rigon nella finale del torneo consolation ha avuto la meglio sul campione del mondo in carica, l'olandese Philip Vischjager. Gloria per i nostri portacolori anche nelle categorie minori, col veneziano Sandro Mescola vincitore dell'intermediate sul torinese Filippo Vincesilao . Nel consolation dell'amateur il veneziano Stefano Battain si è imposto sul bellunese Marco Conte . Molte le novità di questo Città di Venezia. Dall'incontro UISP "no money" che ha coinvolto tutti quelli che giocavano per l'esclusivo piacere di giocare, al torneo di doppio proposto con gli incontri tipo Coppa Davis, all'effervescente e innovativo "Swing". Con l'occasione si sono svolti anche i play-off del Circuito Nazionale Backgammon che hanno visto la vittoria del torinese Giorgio Castellano sul veneziano Alfonso Sara . Complessivamente sono state disputate più di 1.000 partite ufficiali, alle quali hanno partecipato 114 giocatori, provenienti da 18 diverse nazioni ( Argentina, Austria, Belgio, Bulgaria, Germania, Georgia, Gran Bretagna, Grecia, Iran, Italia, Olanda, Portogallo, Slovenia, Spagna, Svizzera, Svezia, Turchia, USA ). Un particolare grazie al lungimirante Casinò di Venezia , all' Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Circuito Nazionale Backgammon ed alla UISP (Lega sport e giochi Tradizionali) che hanno sempre creduto in questa manifestazione riconoscendone il carattere sportivo. DARIO DE TOFFOLI Per finire l'ultima situazione della finale, che molti spettatori averebbero giocato in modo diverso dalla Peycheva. Maya conduce 14-10 in un match ai 17 e ha il cubo a 2; lei è di turno con sole 3 pedine da togliere (punte 2, 4 e 5); anche Massimo ha 3 pedine (punte 1, 3 e 3). La Peycheva raddoppia a 4, Massimo accetta e Maya tira 3-1; Massimo raddoppia a 8, Maya accetta, Massimo tira 6-5 e Maya tira 4-1 e perde. Che sia stata l'emozione?
